Academic Regalia

Academic regalia, commonly called cap and gown, is required when participating in University of Idaho commencement ceremonies. Regalia is available to purchase via Office of 校友 Relations and can be picked up on campus or shipped directly to the graduate.

Bachelor's Candidates

The cap and gown are black. The color of the 流苏 is determined by the discipline to which the major field of study belongs.

College of Agricultural and Life Sciences

All bachelor's majors in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences wear a 玉米 流苏.

College of Art and Architecture

Bachelors with a major in art wear a 白色 流苏 and all other bachelor's majors in the College of Art and Architecture wear a 棕色（的） 流苏.

College of Business and Economics

All bachelor's majors in the College of Business and Economics wear a 单调的 流苏.

College of Education, Health and Human Sciences

Bachelor's majors in Career and Technical Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education and Special Education wear a light blue 流苏.

Bachelor's majors in Athletic Training, 跳舞, Exercise Science and Health, Physical Education and Recreation wear a sage green 流苏.

College of Engineering

All bachelor's majors in the College of Engineering wear an orange 流苏.

College of Letters, 艺术 and Social Sciences

Bachelor's majors in Advertising, Broadcasting and Digital Media, Journalism and Public Relations wear a crimson 流苏.

Bachelor's majors in American Studies, Anthropology, Criminology, English, Foreign Language, French, General Studies, History, Interdisciplinary Studies (B.A.), International Studies, Latin-American Studies, Political Science, Sociology, Spanish and Theatre 艺术 (B.A. 和B.S) wear a 白色 流苏; Theatre 艺术 (B.F.A.) wear a 棕色（的） 流苏.

Bachelor's majors in Economics wear a russet 流苏.

Bachelor's majors in Interdisciplinary Studies (B.S.), Organizational Sciences and Psychology wear a golden yellow 流苏.

Bachelor's majors in all disciplines of Music and Music Education wear a 粉红色的 流苏.

Bachelor's majors in Philosophy wear a dark blue 流苏.

College of Natural Resources

All bachelor's majors in the College of Natural Resources wear a russet 流苏.

College of Science

All bachelor's majors in the College of Science wear a golden yellow 流苏.

Master's and Specialist Candidates

The cap, 流苏 and gown are black. The shape of the master's and specialist's gown sleeves is oblong. A 罩 is worn over the gown, lined with the colors of the university — silver and gold. The color of the 罩's trim is determined by the discipline to which the major field of study belongs.

All graduate majors in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences wear a 玉米 罩.

College of Art and Architecture

Art majors in the M.A.T. program wear a 白色 罩 and all other graduate majors in the College of Art and Architecture wear a 棕色（的） 罩.

College of Business and Economics

All graduate majors in the College of Business and Economics wear a 单调的 罩.

College of Education, Health and Human Sciences

Graduate majors in Adult/Organizational Learning and Leadership, Counseling and Human Services, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, School Psychology and Special Education wear a light blue 罩.

Graduate majors in Athletic Training, Movement and Leisure Sciences and Physical Education wear a sage green 罩.

College of Engineering

All graduate majors in the College of Engineering wear an orange 罩.

College of Graduate Studies

Interdisciplinary majors in the M.A. program wear a 白色 罩 and M.S. wear a golden yellow 罩.

College of Letters, 艺术 and Social Sciences

Graduate majors in Anthropology, English, History, Political Science and Teaching English as a Second Language wear a 白色 罩.

Graduate majors in Creative Writing and Theatre 艺术 wear a 棕色（的） 罩.

Graduate majors in Music wear a 粉红色的 罩.

Graduate majors in Philosophy wear a dark blue 罩.

Graduate majors in Psychology wear a golden yellow 罩.

Graduate majors in Public Administration wear a peacock blue 罩.

College of Natural Resources

All graduate majors in the College of Natural Resources wear a russet 罩. 

College of Science

All graduate majors in the College of Science wear a golden yellow 罩.

Doctoral Candidates

Doctoral candidates, including those earning a Juris Doctor, wear a cap or tam with an old gold-colored 流苏. The gown is silver with black velvet panels down the front and across the sleeves. A 罩 is worn over the gown, lined with the colors of the university — silver and gold. The color of the 罩's trim is royal blue for all Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) candidates representing the mastery of the discipline of learning and scholarship, regardless of discipline. Other doctorate 罩 colors are determined by the discipline to which the major field of study belongs.

All majors of Ph.D. degrees wear a dark blue 罩. 

Ed.D. Degrees

All majors of Ed.D. degrees wear a light blue 罩.

D.A.T. Degrees

Athletic Training majors of D.A.T. degrees wear a sage green 罩. 

J.D. Degrees

All Law majors of J.D. degrees wear a 紫色的 罩.

Honor Cords

Bachelor's and Juris Doctor candidates eligible for university honors — summa cum laude, magna cum laude, or cum laude — receive an honor cord to wear over their gown. Candidates approved to participate in commencement before degree completion are not eligible for university honors recognition at the commencement ceremony.
